Naturally Pastured Roaster/Broilers
Our broilers are cornish cross chickens raised without the use of hormones or antibiotics of any kind from day one. They are supplemented with organic grains and are happy on fresh green pasture straight from the brooder at about 10 days of age. These birds have 24/7 direct, constant access to bugs, worms and green grass which accounts for about 30% of their total diet. We protect our birds from predators using chicken tractors, moved daily onto fresh pasture as read about in Michael Pollans, "The Omnivore's Dilemma." This gives them plenty of room to be chickens, as well as ensuring a clean, healthy and natural living environment. These birds produce a firm, moist and most flavorful meat, reminiscent of the chicken your grandparents grew up with.
Turkey
Our turkeys are Broad Breasted Whites. We chose them for their flavor, moisture and tenderness. They weigh from 12 to 20 pounds and are available fresh for Thanksgiving.
We raise our turkey the same way we raise chicken. They are naturally pastured and use the same chicken tractors until they weigh about ten pounds. At that point, they are given their own special roost.
They live out on grass, eating bugs and enjoying the sun. They are fed additional organic grains and fodder (a sprouted grain similar to wheatgrass.) We never use antibiotics or hormones. They are 100% natural, happy, outdoor turkeys.
Our turkeys are grown slowly (15-19 weeks) which produces the most flavorful and healthy turkey money can buy (and our price reflects it.)
We raise a limited amount of turkey each year. We begin taking reservations in July, so be sure to reserve yours as early as possible.
Pork
Our pigs are purebred Berkshires that are born and bred on pasture, locally. We bring them to our farm at approximately 8 weeks of age.
They are raised on natural pasture, free from antibiotics and hormones. They are supplemented with sprouted organic grains purchased locally.
These boys and girls love to root around in our pasture. They might as well be rototillers. They eat up the roots, the grass and any weeds they can find. Oh, and they roll around in the mud.
Our pork is available year round and can be purchased through our CSA or in quarters, halves and wholes. It is also available at Farmers Markets in individual cuts.
Eggs
Our eggs are the REAL FERTILE DEAL! Many people tell us that they can not eat another egg after they have tried ours. Our layers spend all of their days on fresh, green grass. This makes the yolk a rich orange color and causes the egg to be firm and buttery. This is indicative of high levels of Omega 3 and Vitamins A and D.
Our hens and roosters are raised on pasture, supplemented with organic grain and organic fodder (sprouted grain similar to wheatgrass.) They roost in mobile chicken coops that are moved often.
Our Great Pyrenees/Anatolian mix, Belle, protects all of our poultry. She is quick to jump temporary fences to protect them from birds and other predators.
